Leader In Me

French Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me School. Leader in Me is a whole-school improvement process based on the idea that everyone can be a leader. This evidence-based approach empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. We focus on developing the whole-child by:

  • teaching LEADERSHIP to every student,
  • creating a CULTURE of student empowerment,
  • and aligning systems to drive results in ACADEMICS.

The principles taught in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People are universal, timeless principles of personal, interpersonal and organizational effectiveness. They are secular in nature and common to all people and cultures. They transcend political, philosophical, religious, socioeconomic, generational, gender, and lifestyle differences, and may be adapted and applied in any context or environment.

Leader In Me Implementation

  • School staff engage in several The Leader in Me training sessions. Staff incorporate the principles in their personal and professional lives.

  • School staff model the principals with and for their students.

  • School staff incorporate the principles into school culture and curricula.

  • School staff implement the school vision and mission, continually assess the effectiveness, and make adjustments as needed.

  • School staff implement key elements of the leadership model, including:

    • Teaching students how to set, track, and achieve their goals.
    • Designing the physical environment to reinforce the vision and outcomes for the school (banners, signs, murals, etc).
    • Holding Student-Led Conferences, which are similar to parent-teacher conferences, but with the students taking ownership for their learning and leading these conferences.
    • Building student leadership roles within the school - recognizing and building on each student’s personal genius.
    • Holding student-led Leadership Events.
    • Using a common language of leadership.

  • Parents play an important role in supporting their children in the process and partner with the school through the Parent Teacher Organization as well as family events and home-school connections.

  • School staff, students, and parents utilize a number of resources (lesson plans, videos, student activity guides, Teacher Editions, posters, books, and The Leader in Me Online) to help them implement and reinforce the process.
