Hello! I’m Jeslyn Dees, a.k.a. Ms. Jeslyn, and I am the Global Arts EA at French Elementary School! I gleefully stepped into this position in September 2024 and have been absolutely loving working with our brilliant, kind, and creative students. It is a dream of mine to be teaching art in a district that I adore.

My goal is to teach our kids to hold onto their creativity so that they can keep it with them throughout their lives. There are far too many adults who claim to have lost their imaginative spirit as they get older. I will attempt to combat this prospect through the use of choice-based art, honoring students’ autonomy, and encouraging experimentation in their individual projects. In my classroom, we have a motto: “Bad art is better than no art,” meaning that even during the times that a student feels discouraged towards their work, it does not lose its value because the process of creating is a valuable part of them all in itself.

The Global Arts curriculum is implemented with the combined efforts of both the Global Arts EA, Ms. Jeslyn, and the Inquiry Learning Center (ILC) EA, Ms. Penrose. Each project is based on a different part of the world which is first studied in their ILC Specials class, and then explored through art in their Global Arts Specials class.
